It’s the most challenging time of the year. Weren’t we just celebrating the most wonderful time of the year? I think we were. And, if you’re like me, you might have gained a few pounds enjoying an extra serving or two of your favorite casserole, fudge sent over by the neighbors and all of the yummy goodness that arrives at your office during the month of December.
And, since most people pledge to lose weight or exercise more during this time of year, we’ve put together some tips on how to make that happen – past the month of January.
Let’s get started!
- Make a plan and write it down. Studies show that documented goals – in whatever form you prefer – are entirely more effective than those you think up in your head and fail to write down. Find an app that works for you, join a weight loss center or simply go old school and put pen to paper.
- Document your journey. Depending on the expected duration of your challenge, pledge to take a photo once a week to show your progress. Keep your compact camera in the same place (in a compact camera bag), near your goal worksheet, and be diligent about taking photos. You’ll love to look back at your changes.
- Make yourself accountable. You can do this with a friend or on your own. But, devising some sort of system that keeps you answering to someone can make all the difference in a challenge.
- Reward yourself for your accomplishments. Buy a new dress when you achieve a certain size or shape. We – as a society – love a nice incentive. Don’t forget to congratulate yourself on a job well done.
Regardless of what your healthy goals are for 2015, we wish you the best of luck in achieving them. Now, get busy and have fun with your challenge!
